“I have two daughters, aged five and three. I’m separated from their mum but I see the girls at weekends and for a day or two during the week, when they stay over with me in the High Peak.”

“I love spending time with my girls. I don’t have any support from my own family, though. I so missed having advice and help when the children stopped with me.

“Luckily, I came across details of Home-Start and after a lot of thinking about it, I gave them a call. At first, I was just looking for guidance with settling the girls down at bedtime.

“But I have been helped in so many other ways since I called them up. The Home-Start co-ordinator put me in touch with Caroline, a volunteer. She came over and gave me loads of advice – about safety, sleeping arrangements, setting rules for the kids. That sort of stuff.

“Caroline has been most helpful to me. It’s built up my confidence. Now, the girls have more fun with me and I am more calm and relaxed. It takes the pressure off when you’ve got someone to turn to.”
